Abstract

Entering October 2017, the prices of basic goods / services in Banten generally declined. This is evident from the decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 137.06 in September to 137.04 in October or a 0.02 percent change in index (deflation).

Two out of the seven expenditure groups experienced a decline in index, respectively: foodstuffs fell by 0.36 percent and transport, communication and financial services fell by 0.23 percent. While the other groups experienced an increase in index, namely: housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel rose by 0.22 percent; health groups rose by 0.22 percent; clothing group rose by 0.13 percent; education, recreation and sports groups rose by 0.12 percent; and food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group which rose by 0.07 percent.

The dominant commodities contributing to deflation in October are air, garlic, onion, melon, watermelon and chicken eggs.

The calendar year inflation rate was 2.90 percent, while the year-on-year inflation (October 2011 CPI of October 2016) was 4.07 percent.
