Abstract

• In March 2018, the number of poor (people with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Banten reached 661.36 thousand people (5.24 percent), decreased by 38.47 thousand people compared to the conditions of September 2017 amounting to 699.83 thousand people (5.59 percent).
• The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2017 of 4.69 percent fell to 4.38 percent in March 2018. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2017 of 7.81 percent fell to 7.33 percent in March 2018.
• During the period of September 2017-March 2018, the number of poor people in urban areas decreased by 21.87 thousand people (from 415.67 thousand people in September 2017 to 393.80 thousand people in March 2018), while in rural areas fell by 16 , 61 thousand people (from 284.16 thousand people in September 2017 to 267.55 thousand people in March 2018).
• The role of food commodities against the Poverty Line is much greater than that of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). The contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line in March 2018 was recorded at 71.66 percent. This condition is not much different from the condition of September 2017 that is equal to 70.92 percent.
• The types of food commodities that have a major impact on the value of the March 2018 Poverty Line in urban as well as rural areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, chicken eggs, chicken meat, coffee powder and instant coffee (sachet) and bread. While non food commodities that have a big effect on the value of Poverty Line in urban as well as rural are housing, gasoline, electricity, education, and toiletries.
