Abstract

The number of workforce in February 2019 was 6.142 million, up 53,916 compared to February 2018. The increase in the number of workforce was not accompanied by an increase in the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) which actually decreased by 0.87 points. This is caused by a shift in the population from the workforce to non-labor force.
  • In the past year, unemployment declined by 6,947 people, in line with the open unemployment rate (TPT) which fell to 7.58 percent in February 2019. Judging from the level of education, TPT for Vocational High Schools (SMK) was still the highest among other levels of education, namely amounting to 11.65 percent.
  • The working population is 5,676 million people, an increase of 60,863 people from February 2018. Employment has increased the percentage of the population working mainly in Trade (4.53 percentage points), Construction (1.34 percent points), and Educational Services (1, 00 point percent While employment experienced a decline mainly in Agriculture & Mining (2.67 percentage points), Processing Industry (1.52 percentage points), and Other Services (1.24 percentage points).
  • 2.46 million people (43.41 percent) work in informal activities. During the past year (February 2018-February 2019), informal workers fell by 1.34 percentage points.
  • The highest percentage in February 2019 is full employment (working hours of at least 35 hours per week) of 78.18 percent. Whereas residents who work with 1-7 hour working hours have the smallest percentage, which is equal to 1.24 percent. Meanwhile, non-full workers were divided into two, namely part-time workers (14.88 percent) and half unemployed workers (5.61 percent).
