Abstract

  • The poverty rate of Banten Province as a result of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in September 2020 was 6.63 percent, an increase of 0.71 points compared to the previous period (March 2020) which was 5.92 percent. This is in line with the increase in the number of poor people by 81.65 thousand people from 775.99 thousand people in March 2020 to 857.64 thousand people in September 2020.

  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas which in March 2020 was 5.03 percent, increased to 5.85 percent in September 2020. Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2020 was 8.18 percent, increasing to 8.57 percent in September 2020 .

  • During the period March 2020-September 2020, the number of poor people in urban areas increased by 67.31 thousand people (from 472.84 thousand people in March 2020 to 540.15 thousand people in September 2020), as well as in rural areas increased by as much 14.35 thousand people (from 303.14 thousand people in March 2020 to 317.49 thousand people in September 2020).

  • The role of food commodities on the Poverty Line is much greater than that of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education and health). In September 2020, the contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line was recorded at 71.89 percent, slightly higher than the condition in March 2020 which was 71.78 percent.

  • Types of food commodities that have a major effect on the poverty line value of September 2020 in urban and rural areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, eggs, purebred chicken meat, powdered milk, and ground coffee & instant coffee (sachets). Meanwhile, non-food commodities are the biggest contributor to the poverty line in urban and rural areas, namely the cost of housing, gasoline, electricity, education and toiletries.
