Abstract

Banten Province poverty rate from the National Social Economic Survey (Susenas) in September 2019 was 4.94 percent, a decrease of 0.15 points compared to the previous period (March 2019) which amounted to 5.09 percent. This is in line with the reduction in the number of poor people of 13.04 thousand people from 654.46 thousand people in March 2019 to 641.42 thousand people in September 2019.

  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas which in March 2019 was 4.12 percent fell to 4.00 percent in September 2019. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2019 was 7.49 percent, down to 7.31 percent in September 2019.
  • During the period March 2019-September 2019, the number of poor people in urban areas decreased by 7.5 thousand people (from 378.73 thousand people in March 2019 to 371.28 thousand people in September 2019), as well as in rural areas decreased by 5.6 thousand people (from 275.73 thousand people in March 2019 to 270.13 thousand people in September 2019).
  • The role of food commodities on the Poverty Line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). In September 2019, the contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line was recorded at 71.61 percent, slightly lower than the March 2019 condition of 71.66 percent.
  • Types of food commodities that have a major influence on the value of the Poverty Line in March 2019 in urban and rural areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, broiler eggs, broiler chicken, instant noodles, and bread. While non-food commodities are the biggest contributors to the Poverty Line in urban and rural areas, namely the cost of housing, gasoline, electricity, education and toiletries.
